The vehicles of the ČD series 755 are mainline diesel locomotives of the Czech Railways (ČD) for freight traffic. They were created in 2005 as a prototype as part of a planned reconstruction program from vehicles of the 753 series (formerly T 478.3).

history

In the 1970s, ČKD built a total of 408 locomotives of the T 478.3 series in Prague . The locomotives proved their worth in medium-duty passenger and freight train services on the non-electrified main lines. With an axle load of only 18 tons, the locomotives can be used very freely, making them real universal locomotives.

In the mid-1990s, the first locomotives were reaching the end of their normative service life. Since the purchase of new diesel locomotives was ruled out for financial reasons, only the steam heating device was initially replaced by an electric heater. At the same time, the decommissioning of the first vehicles began, for which further refurbishment was not worthwhile.

However, some of the retired vehicles were equipped with new Caterpillar engines by ŽOS Česká Třebová (today: ČMKS ) in 1996 and sold to an Italian private railway company. A little later, identical vehicles went to the private Czech railway companies OKD Doprava and Unipetrol Doprava . These locomotives were classified there under the new class number 753.7.

In 2005, ČD also had two locomotives converted accordingly. In addition to the engine, the traction generator and all of the electrical equipment were renewed. A heating device was not provided in accordance with the intended use in freight transport.

The two locomotives were located in Praha-Vršovice. With the separation of the freight transport division of ČD on December 1, 2007, the locomotives came to ČD Cargo , which they operate from Usti and Kralupy.
