PKP Cargo International is a Czech railway company based in Ostrava .
The company has its origins in the company Advanced World Transport as (AWT) , previously OKD, Doprava as (OKDD), which emerged from the industrial railway of the mining company Ostravsko-karvinské doly through a spin-off. The company has been a subsidiary of PKP Cargo since May 2015 .
history
The origins of the company go back to the mining railways of the Kaiser-Ferdinands-Nordbahn (KFNB) and other private coal railways in the Ostrava-Karviná mining area. The individual mining companies were nationalized after the Second World War and merged into the Ostravsko-karvinskékomouhelné doly group (translated: Ostravsko- Karvinské coal mines) (since 1950: Ostravsko-karvinské doly - OKD). In 1952 OKD founded OKR Doprava , which took over the operation of the mining railways and coking plant connection railways. OKR-Doprava was initially a railway infrastructure company, only gradually took over the railway operations from the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) and the individual mines.
In 1994 the company was renamed and restructured into the OKD Doprava joint-stock company . OKD Doprava is a logistics service provider that offers transport by rail and road. In 2008 Viamont's freight transport division, Viamont Cargo, was taken over . Since 2010 the company has operated as AWT. In terms of transport volume, PKP Cargo International is the second largest railway company on the SŽDC network .
The company has been trading as PKP Cargo International since October 2, 2019.
