The ČD Cargo is a Czech railway company in rail freight.

history

ČD Cargo locomotive 122.002

The company was spun off from České dráhy (ČD) on December 1, 2007 and took over around a third of the locomotives (953), all freight cars (34,936) and around 12,500 employees from the parent company.

In 2015, 66.4 million t of goods were transported; in 2006 it was 89.6 million t. The reason for this was the loss of North Sea traffic to Metrans and the general decline in single wagon traffic . The transit traffic of metal goods from Poland to Austria and Italy was lost to Rail Cargo Austria .

Coal transports make up around 30% of freight transport. Almost half of the lignite is intended for the ČEZ power plants . The hard coal from the Ostrava / Karviná district (company NWR ) is supplied to Czech power plants and steelworks in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Austria, Germany and Hungary.
