The locomotive of the ČSD class 475.1 was a tender locomotive designed for universal service of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD), which was manufactured in Plzeň by Škoda . Because of their elegant appearance, the locomotives were nicknamed “Šlechtična” ( noble lady ) by the service department.

history

It was designed for the transport of passenger, express and express trains in hilly terrain and for the transport of fast freight trains. 172 locomotives were ordered from the Škoda works in Plzeň , but only 147 machines were accepted by the ČSD . The vehicles with the numbers 1148 to 1172 went to what is now North Korea as part of socialist aid .

The class 475.1 locomotive was an extremely versatile locomotive. Due to the low axle pressure of 15 t, it was also suitable on routes with a less stable superstructure. Several advanced elements were involved in their construction, e.g. B. roller axle bearings, mechanical grate loading, automatic lubrication and double blow pipe of the Kylchap type have been used. The locomotive is made entirely of welded construction.

They were mainly used for heavy passenger trains in the low mountain ranges of Bohemia and Slovakia . They were able to move a train of 600 t on the plain at 100 km / h, the same mass on a slope of 5 ‰ at 60 km / h and on 10 ‰ at 32 km / h. This and the extremely elegant appearance of the machine earned it the nickname “Šlechtična”.

With the electrification of the most important main lines and the procurement of diesel locomotives, the locomotives slowly became dispensable from the 1970s. 134 machines were still in active use in 1972. In particular, the delivery of additional locomotives of the T 478.1 and T 478.3 series meant that the 475.1 series could be retired by 1980. 475.179 was the last scheduled locomotive of this series.

Some locomotives have been preserved. The 475.101 in Brno , the 475.111 owned by the Iron Monument Club Plzeň , the 475.179 in Děčín and the 475.196 in Vrútky are still operational . There are also several vehicles such. B. the green 475.1142, in a condition worth exhibiting in various depots.
