The ČSD series T 212.1 (from 1988: series 703 ) were diesel-mechanical shunting locomotives of the Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). As with its predecessor series T 211.0 and T 212.0, the locomotive is used for light station shunting, shunting in depots and towing in larger industrial companies.

history

Although over 1000 examples of the light shunting locomotives of the classes T 211 and T 212 have already been produced, there was a further need for robust shunting locomotives in the 1960s.

In 1969 the prototype was developed and produced. It is a further development of the ČSD series T 212.0 and has been appropriately modernized.

The series production took place in the years 1972–1979 at Turčianske strojárne n. P. in Martin . In addition to the ČSD, this locomotive was delivered in various designs for various companies and for export (GDR, China, Bulgaria, Egypt, USSR, Poland, Romania, Albania, Iraq, India and Hungary).

The locomotives are still used in large numbers at today's České dráhy (ČD) and Železničná spoločnosť Slovensko (ZSSK). Some locomotives were reconstructed to the narrow-gauge series 797 and 799 .

technical features

The design of the T 212.1 locomotive series is based on the T 211.0 and T 212.0 series.

The main change is the equipment with the TATRA 930-54 diesel engine and the ČKD SRM LIHM 21-r automatic hydromechanical gearbox . While the diesel engine is a twelve-cylinder with direct fuel injection, the mechanical gearbox was replaced for the first time by an automatic gear selection. The shift between the individual gears depends on the speed of the diesel engine. This changed the control of the locomotive, which for the first time only takes place with the throttle. The torque is transmitted by a cardan shaft that drives the two axles.

The tractor is equipped with a handbrake and a pneumatic brake. This consists of an indirectly acting train brake that works with the DAKO BS 2 control valve and a direct acting locomotive brake that is controlled by the DAKO BP control valve. The brake system consists of a brake piston with a diameter of 8 "(pmax = 4 bar), which brakes both axles of the locomotive on both sides by means of a block brake.

The energy for the on-board network with a voltage of 24 V is ensured by a battery with a capacity of 350 Ah.
