The ČSD series M 251.2 was a four-axle diesel multiple unit for regional and express train traffic of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). The vehicles are described as the archetype of the Blue Arrows ( Memento from February 27, 2011 in the Internet Archive ). For the first time, the construction method typical of Královopolská in Brno emerged , which could be seen on the tracks of the ČSD in the following years with the railcars of the M 120.5 , M 273.0 and M 284.1 series.
history
At Královopolská in Brno , four-axle railcars with a length of almost 20 m and two engines were manufactured from 1930. The first vehicles still followed the layout of 4-axle express train passenger cars with retracted doors and a narrowed tip. The engine radiator was located on the roof. The driver's cab was later narrowed and the radiator was placed on the side of the vehicle. After the roof was flattened and the suspension was changed to that of post and company cars, the prototype of the blue arrows was completed with these two vehicles.
technical features
The railcars were powered by 2 8-cylinder diesel engines, which, connected to the generator, were each stored in a bogie. The only information about the engine origin and data can be inferred from the literature that there were engines of our own designs, which arose from the M 221.3 series through increased performance . The electrical power transmission was based on the BBC system and was implemented as a drive motor in the other axis of the bogie.
The compartment for the passengers had a capacity of 81 seats in 2 large compartments and was heated with the cooling water of the internal combustion engine. For the exact arrangement of the wagon floor plan, see the attached sketch.
commitment
For the routes of use of the blue arrows, see ČSD series M 274.0 . The M 251.2 series railcars were preferred on the Brno - Prague route and required 3 hours 10 minutes for this 254 km long route. The vehicles also ran on the route from Prague to Pilsen . After 1938 they were used at Cheb on the Reichsbahn . For the stationings see web links. After 1945, both vehicles were converted into sidecars and were used in passenger transport for several years. Then they were converted into special vehicles and were scrapped around 1977.
