The ČSD series M 120.5 were diesel multiple units of the former Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) for regional traffic. The vehicles were specially designed for the branch lines of the former Friedländer Bezirksbahn (FBB) and were in use there until 1949.

history

The two vehicles were built in Brno near Královopolská in 1934 with the serial numbers 15794 and 15794 for use on the routes of the Friedland District Railway.

For use on the low mountain range around Friedland, they were heavily motorized and could therefore run with a sidecar. They were stationed in Jindřichovice pod Smrkem (Heinersdorf) and operated adjacent branch lines. Both railcars were used there until December 1939 and achieved a monthly mileage of 8,550 km.

DR 136 300 and 301

In autumn 1938, as a result of the annexation of the Sudetenland to Germany , they were taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Dresden and designated as 136 300 and 136 301. On January 1, 1940, they had to be stored in a preserved state due to the lack of diesel fuel in the Second World War .

After the Second World War they were returned to the ČSD. M 120.502 stood in Liberec with a burned-out body and was retired in 1948. M 120.501 could be handed over to operations again in 1948 after a repair to maintenance level M5 in the Nymburk repair shop . In 1949 he was back in the repair shop. In 1950 he was handed over to Olomouc and served there for a few days. In 1951 it was turned off and retired in the same year.

technical features

Principle of power transmission according to the
BBC system

The vehicles were designed with three axles. In addition to the drive axle mounted in the frame, they had a two-axle bogie at the other end of the vehicle. The eight-cylinder diesel engine with an output of 160 hp and the flange-mounted generator were located above the non-powered running bogie. The diesel engine was identical to that of the M 251.2 . The electrical power transmission was implemented according to the BBC system in the other axis of the vehicle as a pawl bearing drive motor.

The basic shape and the external appearance of the railcar corresponded to the vehicles M 251.2 and M 273.0 manufactured at Královopolská . The technical equipment was largely taken over from the four-axle wagons.

The compartment for the passengers had a capacity of 46 seats in an open-plan compartment and was heated with the cooling water of the internal combustion engine.
