Český národní symfonický orchestr

Český národní symfonický orchestr ( Czech for Czech National Symphony Orchestra ; official international name: Czech National Symphony Orchestra , abbreviated: ČNSO or CNSO) is a Czech symphony orchestra from Prague .

It was founded in 1993 by the trumpeter Jan Hasenöhrl and in its early years received support and support from the internationally renowned Czech conductor Zdeněk Košler . In 1996 the American Paul Freeman became chief conductor of the orchestra and remained in this position for ten years. Since 2007 a Czech, Libor Pešek , has been leading the ensemble again .

The Czech National Symphony Orchestra is one of the most famous orchestras in the Czech Republic as well as in Europe, mainly due to its versatility in its program, which covers classical concert music as well as modern genres such as film music , jazz and musicals . The orchestra is also the initiator of the Prague Proms music festival , which annually attracts artists from all over the world and a wide variety of styles such as Wynton Marsalis , John Pizzarelli , Mnozil Brass and the Brecker Brothers .

The orchestra's home stage is Smetanova síň in Obecní dům , internationally known as Municipal House , in Prague. International guests such as Ennio Morricone , Lalo Schifrin , James Morrison , Il Divo or Andrea Bocelli have already visited Prague to perform here with the orchestra or because of joint recordings in the orchestra's CNSO Soundtrust Studio . Invited as a guest itself, the orchestra has performed in renowned venues such as Germany, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg , the Berlin Philharmonic or the Gewandhaus , sometimes in collaboration with world-famous singers such as Rolando Villazón .
