İlhan Selçuk (born March 11, 1925 in Aydın , Turkey ; † June 21, 2010 in Istanbul , Turkey) was one of the most famous Turkish journalists. He was the editor-in-chief of Cumhuriyet daily and author of numerous books.

Selçuk was born in Aydın in 1925 as the son of Sergeant Kasım Bey. He studied law at Istanbul University and graduated in 1950. He then worked as a lawyer and, with his brother Turhan Selçuk, brought out cartoon books such as 41 Buçuk  (1952), Dolmuş  (1956) and  Karikatür  (1958). In 1963 he took up his activity as a columnist for Cumhuriyet (of which he later became editor-in-chief) and wrote columns there until the end of his life. Due to his writing activity in left circles at the time, he was arrested in 1971 as an alleged opponent of the coup and tortured in custody. In his confession, forced under torture, he hid the acrostic poem "I am being tortured" ('' işkence altındayım '').

Selçuk was seen as secular and was a critic of the AKP- led governments under the Prime Minister of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan . In May 2008 he was arrested around 4:30 am on charges of being a member of the leadership of an alleged terrorist organization as part of the Ergenekon trial . İlhan Selçuk died on June 21, 2010 at the age of 85 in an Istanbul clinic. According to his will, he was buried next to his brother in a cemetery near the Hajji Bektash tomb .
