İsmet Elçi

İsmet Elçi (born March 2, 1964 in Altınova in the Turkish province of Mus ) is a German-Kurdish writer and director .

Life

İsmet Elçi comes from a Kurdish family. In 1979 he came to Germany with his father for political reasons. He worked in a textile factory and learned German at an evening school . He also played theater and small film roles.

In 1986 he made his first own short film and shortly afterwards made his feature film debut Kismet, Kismet , others followed. The film Sinan ohne Land (1989) for the Second German Television was awarded the Civis Media Prize. Elçi also works as a director of video clips and in advertising . In addition to his work for cinema and television , he published several volumes of narrative works on the situation of Turkish migrants in Germany. Some of them filmed myself (e.g. Cemile or the fairy tale of hope , 1991/1995). For his literary work he was awarded the Adelbert von Chamisso Prize in 1993 .
