Kiyoshi Ōkubo ( Japanese 大 久保 清 Ōkubo Kiyoshi ; born January 17, 1935 in Takasaki , Gunma Prefecture , † January 22, 1976 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese serial killer .

Life

Early life

Kiyoshi Ōkubo grew up in a large family; he had seven siblings - two brothers and five sisters. In contrast to many other later serial killers, he grew up in stable circumstances, enjoyed the prosperity of his family and had many freedoms. While he was being cared for in his parents' home, he had to endure teasing from his classmates at school because he had a "Western appearance" due to the fact that his mother had Russian ancestry. These intensified at the latest when Japan declared war on the United States and the Pacific War began. As a teenager, Ōkubo was seen as a problem child who neglected his school duties, showed a lack of respect for teachers and harassed girls with lewd remarks.

Ōkubo committed his first crime in this context when he was eleven when he tried to rape the four-year-old daughter of a neighbor in 1946. However, Ōkubo's neighbors and parents agreed that a warning would be sufficient. Nine years would pass before the 20-year-old Ōkubo fell victim to a 17-year-old student in Maebashi on July 12, 1955 . This time there was a trial in which Ōkubo was sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment. Because of good conduct, Ōkubo was released a short time later and the sentence was converted to a three-year suspended sentence.

A short time after his release, Ōkubo tried again to rape a woman on December 26, 1955, but was unsuccessful. The judge then revoked the probationary sentence, leaving Ōkubo to serve a three-year prison term in Matsumoto Prison. He was released on December 15, 1959. Another attempt to rape a woman on April 16, 1960 failed.

Ōkubo then tried briefly to start a civil life. He took the false name Kiyoshi Watanabe , married in May 1962, and had two children with his wife. However, on December 23, 1966 and February 24, 1967, he attacked and raped a woman again. On June 7, 1967, the court sentenced him to four years' imprisonment, which Ōkubo had to serve until the last day. In the night of March 2nd to 3rd, 1971 he was released again.

Series of murders

On March 31, 1971, a few weeks after his release from prison, he murdered the 17-year-old student Miyako Tsuda ( 津 田 美 也 子 ). On April 10, 1971, he attacked the 17-year-old waitress Mieko Oikawa ( 老 川 美 枝子 ), raped her and murdered his victim. Just one week later, on April 17, 1971, 19-year-old Chieko Ida ( 伊 田 千 恵 子 ) was murdered by Ōkubo, who followed the student Seiko Kawabata ( 川端 成 子 ; 17) to her death on April 18, 1971 . Only a few days later, on April 27, 1971, Akemi Satō ( 佐藤 明 美 ) , who was only 16 years old, died at Ōkubo's hand. Eighteen-year-old operator Kazuyo Kawaho ( 18 和 代 ) was murdered on May 3, 1971 after she was raped by Ōkubo. On May 9, 1971, just six days later, Reiko Takemura ( 竹村 礼 子 ; 21) fell into the hands of the serial killer. He found Ōkubo's last victim just one day later, on May 10, 1971, when he murdered the housemaid Naoko Takanohashi ( 鷹嘴 直 子 ), who, like his victim Takemura, was 21 years old.

Ōkubo was arrested on the evening of May 14, 1971. Since his car had been noticed near many crime scenes, the police had focused on Ōkubo as a possible perpetrator. Unsurprisingly, a girl was sitting in Ōkubo's car when the police grabbed it. He led the policemen to the eight graves of his victims, most of whom he had buried in an industrial park or even in a landfill, where they could be found and recovered very quickly.

Trial and death

The trial of Kiyoshi okubo took over a year to complete. It ended on February 22, 1973 with a guilty verdict. He was sentenced to death by hanging for eight murders . He tried several times to challenge the verdict legally, but was unsuccessful. Only six days after he in prison in Kosuge ( 小菅 ), Katsushika had celebrated his 41st birthday Tokyo, Okubo was born on January 23, 1976 executed .

As early as 1983, the story and series of murders of Kiyoshi Ōkubo were filmed on Japanese television. The Japanese actor Takeshi Kitano starred in the role of Kiyoshi Ōkubo .
