Shishaku Ōshima Hisanao ( Japanese 大 島 久 直 ; * October 1, 1848 in the northern province of Dewa , Japan ; † September 27, 1928 , Japanese Empire ) was a general in the Imperial Japanese Army .

Life

Ōshima was born in the northern half of Dewa Province, today's Akita Prefecture. From 1868 to 1869 he fought during the Boshin War in the course of the Meiji Restoration on the side of the imperial troops and joined the Imperial Japanese Army , in which he was promoted to lieutenant . During the Satsuma rebellion in 1877, Ōshima commanded a battalion . During the First Sino-Japanese War he was the commander of the 6th Infantry Brigade.

On October 1, 1898, he took command of the 9th Division as Lieutenant General . With this he took part in the Russo-Japanese War in 1904/05 and was subordinate to the 3rd Army , which besieged Port Arthur . After the successful end of the siege, in which he distinguished himself as a commanding officer, he took part with his division in the Battle of Mukden . After the war he was promoted to general and appointed inspector general of military training .

In September 1907, he was appointed shishaku , the equivalent of a vice count according to the Japanese nobility system of Kazoku . He died on September 27, 1928.
