The Žepa (Cyrillic Жепа) is a small river in the east of Bosnia and Herzegovina . It rises near the village of Kusače a few kilometers southeast of Han Pijesak at an altitude of about 1000 m on the southern slope of the mountain Žep . The Žepa then flows in a south-easterly direction through a sparsely populated low mountain range , with its valley lined with rocky cliffs just before the town of the same name .
A little below Žepa, the bridge over the Žepa, described by Ivo Andrić , spans a ravine of the river. The bridge was originally located near the confluence with the Drina , but was dismantled in 1966-68 and rebuilt at its current location, as the old site was to be dammed by a dam.
At the village of Slap , the Žepa flows from the left into the Drina dammed up to Lake Perućac .
