Əşrəf Abbasov

Əşrəf Cəlal oğlu Abbasov ( Russian Ашраф Джалал оглы Аббасов Aschraf Jalal ogly Abbasov , English Ashraf Abasov ; born March 23, 1920 in Şuşa ; † 1992 ) was a Soviet composer, music pedagogue, Azerbaijani and musicologist.

Life

Əşrəf Abbasov's father was Calal Mehdi Abbasov. Əşrəf Abbasov grew up in a tailor's family in Şuşa. He received his first musical lessons there. In 1933 he was accepted into the newly founded music school there. He learned the game of tar from their director Həmzə Əliyev and later from Rəsul Əsədov . He wrote small pieces for the instrument while still at school. In 1936, at the age of sixteen, he went to Baku to the Azarbaycan Dövlat Musiqi Texnikumuna (Azerbaijan State Music College ). From 1939 he studied composition with Boris Zeidman (1908–1981) at the Baku Conservatory, today's Baku Music Academy . In 1942 he was the head of the music school in Şuşa. Since 1946 he was a member of the CPSU . In 1948 he finished his studies and went to the Moscow Conservatory . Michail Ivanovich Tschulaki (1908–1989) was his composition teacher here. He received his doctorate in 1952 with the work Üzeyir Hacıbəyov and his opera Köroglu . He remained true to the musical tradition in which he grew up in Şuşa all his life, used and arranged folk music there in his compositions and created many works in the spirit of this tradition. He was a teacher and professor at the Azerbaijan State Conservatory of which he was the rector from 1953 to 1957. From 1957 to 1972 he was head of the composition department. He taught until his death in 1992. In 1963 he was named an Honored Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR . From 1943, the year it was founded, he was a member of the board of the Azerbaijan Composers' Union until his death. His son is the Azerbaijani composer Cəlal Əşraf oğlu Abbasov.

ballet

  • Tschernuschka , also Qaraca qız , Garaja gyz or Nigella, great ballet for children. Libretto: Əfrasiyab Bədəlbəyli (1907–1976). It is based on the story of Qaraca qız by the Azerbaijani writer Süleyman Sani Axundovun (1875–1939). Abbasov himself directed the premiere as a conductor. The choreographer was Qəmər Almaszadə (1915–2006).

  • Uvertüra, dance suite in three parts for symphony orchestra. It was performed in 1944 at the Decade of Music of the Transcaucasian Soviet Republics and was favorably judged by Reinhold Glier and Sergei Nikiforowitsch Wassilenko .
  • Symphonic poem No. 1 for Şuşa symphony orchestra . 1945
  • Symphonic poem No. 2 for symphony orchestra Gələcək gün or Наступит день  [The future day]. 1952. It is based on the novel of the same name Mirzrah İbrahimovs (1911–1993) from 1949.
  • Simfonik poema [symphonic poem] No. 3 for symphony orchestra, drama poema or Драматическая [dramatic poem], Baku 1953/1968. He dedicated the work to his composition teacher Mikhail Ivanovich Tschulaki. It was recorded by the State Radio Symphony Orchestra of the USSR under Algis Juraitis.
  • Konsertino / Concertino for symphony orchestra, published in 1972 by Azərnəşr in Baku. The work was recorded by the State Radio Symphony Orchestra of the USSR under Kamal Abdullaev.
