's Ländle, my homeland , composed and set to music by Anton Schmutzer (1864–1936), has been the national anthem of the Austrian state of Vorarlberg since 1949.

The original version of the hymn dates back to 1905. At that time, the Feldkirch music teacher and choir director Anton Schmutzer set the poem Vorarlberger Heimweh to music . In 1907 he changed the melody slightly and added a new, self-composed text to it: “Du Ländle, my dear home” . In 1937 the state government declared the folk song to be the official "state song" after references to the emperor and monarchy had been removed from the text in the second stanza . Up until then it had been said “here you stick to the old emperor” , the “emperor” was eventually replaced by the “homeland” , but “fatherland” is also sung as an alternative . In the following years of war and National Socialism , when Vorarlberg was temporarily administered again from Innsbruck , the song gained special local patriotic importance. In 1949, the Vorarlberger Landtag made my homeland a national anthem by law.

  • According to Section 248 (2) of the Criminal Code , Federal Law Gazette No. 60/1974, the national anthem also enjoys criminal protection.
