An ensemble of residential buildings is located at 1–28 Woodside Place in the Scottish city ​​of Glasgow . In 1970 the building was included as an individual monument in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The building was erected in 1838. The Scottish architect George Smith was responsible for the design in collaboration with John Baird .

House number 17 is known as the former home of surgeon Joseph Lister . In 1892, Lister commissioned the architect George Henry Walton to redesign the interior. The interior of house number four was redesigned in 1906 and of house number three in 1909 by Charles Rennie Mackintosh .

The classicist row of buildings is on the south-eastern edge of Kelvingrove Park . Opposite are the building group 1–22 Woodside Terrace and partially 6–19 Woodside Crescent . The main facades of the individual houses are each three axes wide. With the exception of the outer and the two central houses, which are three-story, the row of buildings is two-story. The paired entrance areas of these houses are designed with Doric columns and the masonry on the ground floor is rusticated .

The pilastrated entrance doors are accessible via a short front staircase and have simple cornices on consoles . The windows on the upper floor show architraves and are simply crowned . Window cornices run below . A cornice , some with a stone balustrade , completes the facade. The roofs are covered with slate.
