107.5 The music station was a short-lived radio station under private law in the greater Graz area . The station emerged from the Grazer Stadtradio , which after a majority takeover by Leykam Medien AG and the Kronen Zeitung began broadcasting on March 13, 2000 with a new name, a new program and a new management level.

The radio program was broadcast on the analog terrestrial frequency 107.5 MHz and the station was subsequently bought up by KroneHit (then still Krone Hit R @ dio) in 2001 and 2002 .

history

107.5 The music station emerged from the Graz city radio . After a majority takeover by Leykam Medien AG and Kronen Zeitung, this was transformed into a new channel and, in addition to a new name, also received a new program. In addition, the management level was replaced by new people. Nikolaus Wisiak from Leykam Medien AG took over the management together with Bernhard Weiss from Mediaprint . Norbert Oberhauser , who was born in Graz and had previously been head of entertainment at 88.6 , acted as program director . Sales management was taken over by Dieter Fellhofer, a previous sales manager at Mustang Jeans . The company operating the station kept the name Grazer Stadtradio GmbH . The station was started as an alternative to Ö3 and Antenne Steiermark and should be under the motto More Music for Graz! With the new program philosophy, primarily offer a lot of music. The main focus was on the music of the decades from the 1960s to the 1990s.

Both in terms of programming and in the marketing led by Birgit Lill , there was cooperation with the station 88.6 Der Musiksender , with the program concept for the new station coming from Bernd Sebor , the 88.6 managing director. The station voice functioned on 107.5 Der Musiksender and on 88.6 the actor Frank Hoffmann . The station was to be made known through large-scale advertising campaigns before the relaunch ; there were also posters, city lights , advertisements in the Styrian edition of the Kronen Zeitung, as well as in the magazine Der Grazer and numerous additional off-air campaigns. The technical range of the station was around 400,000 listeners, which mainly covered the metropolitan areas, but also still had broadcast reception in rural areas. The aim of the new music format was to further increase the previous range of the old station, which was 16.5% from Monday to Sunday in the radio test in the second half of 1999 in the 14 to 49 age group. However, this was only partially successful. The market share in the age group “10 years and older” was 5% in the radio test for the first half of 2000 and 7% in the age group of 14 to 49 year olds. In the last test, the Graz radio 107.5 had only 4% in the age group “10+” and 3% in the age group “14 - 49”. The daily reach in the age group “10 years and older” was 8.1% (an increase of 2.9% since the last test) and 12.3% in the age group of 14 to 49 year olds, which is an increase of 6 , 9% compared to the last test. The values given relate only to the distribution area (the city of Graz and its immediate surroundings).

Better figures were already available for the second half of 2000, with a market share of 7% in the “10+” age group and 12% in the “14 - 49” age group. The daily reach was 9.5% in the first age group and 13.1% in the second group. While the ORF stations continued to bring in record values, the daily reach of 107.5 in the first half of 2001 remained almost the same as in the previous half and recorded a slight increase in the same period of the first half of 2000. The radio test of the 1st half of 2001 could not keep up with the market shares of the previous half year; however, these leveled off roughly at the values of the comparative period of the 1st half of 2000. In a regional comparison of the Styrian radio stations, too, 107.5 Der Musiksender was clearly in last place, which was partly due to the restricted broadcasting area.

In the course of the year, the station is likely to have ceased operations. The station was subsequently bought up by the private station KroneHit (then still Krone Hit R @ dio ), which had only started broadcasting in Vienna and Lower Austria a year earlier. From then on, the KroneHit program was broadcast on the frequency. After the communications authority Austria , or KommAustria for short, founded in 2001 , had previously decided that KroneHit may broadcast on the frequency mentioned, the Federal Communications Senate, established a year earlier, confirmed this decision in June 2002 and granted KroneHit a license for the following ten years. Previously, several competitors such as Radio Energy , Soundportal and Radio Helsinki had appealed against KommAustria's decision.

Studio and antenna

The radio studio was on Färberplatz in Graz. The antenna, which was built in 1996, is located on the Plabutsch , one of Graz's local mountains , and has been used for broadcasting since 1998. On April 1, 1998, the predecessor of 107.5 Der Musiksender started broadcasting from this station.
