1206 - The Kaiserschlacht von Wassenberg is a musical by Michael Bednarek (lyrics) and Torben Beerboom (music). It was created on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the city of Wassenberg . The premiere took place on July 27, 2006 in the ballroom of Burg Wassenberg . From January 11th to 13th, 2008 the play was performed in the Consol Theater in Gelsenkirchen .

The musical describes the incidents that led to the war between the German kings Philip of Swabia and Otto IV . All people are based on real role models. Only Kunigunde is fictional. In his musical, Michael Bednarek combines a real story with plausible fictional elements to create an exciting and self-contained whole.

Torben Beerboom composed rock and pop up-tempo songs combined with pop ballads in the musical. The music adapts to the scenic events of the musical and forms a unit through the close coordination of the lyricist and composer. The entire music arrangement was in the hands of Torben Beerbooms.
