properties

2-Oxazolidinone is a beige solid that is soluble in water.

use

2-oxazolidinone is used as an antimicrobial agent. In organisms, it acts as a protein synthesis inhibitor, which influences an early step in the binding of N-formylmethionyl-tRNA to the ribosome . It is also used for chiral syntheses and as an ethanolamine equivalent. It also behaves like an aziridine equivalent, as in the conversion of thiophenols or amines to their aminoethyl derivatives .
