20cent was a daily newspaper in tabloid format that was published by the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group and appeared in Lausitz (southern Brandenburg and northeast Saxony) and Saarland . The first edition of 20cent appeared on May 11, 2004, that of 20cent saar on March 31, 2005. 20cent always had 32 pages and was printed in four colors. It was the first daily newspaper in tabloid format in Germany. 20cent was an offshoot of the Lausitzer Rundschau that appeared in the Lausitzer VerlagsService GmbH (LVS). The free weekly magazine LR-Woche continues to appear in the LVS , and it also operates the Internet portal www.lr-online.de. 20cent saar belonged to the Saarbrücker Zeitung (both publishing group Georg von Holtzbrinck) and was published by the SZ subsidiary Saarbrücker VerlagsService GmbH, under whose roof the lifestyle magazine POTATO appeared until 2009 and the Internet platform SOL.DE is still produced. The editors-in-chief of 20cent were Andreas Oppermann and Dieter Schulz. The editor-in-chief of 20cent saar was Peter Stefan Herbst.

With a retail price of € 0.20, the newspaper aimed primarily at young readers. The claim of 20cent was: "20cent - everyone has". According to IVW, the edition of 20cent amounted to approx. 12,500 copies. According to SR, 20cent saar has been sold around 15,000 times. 20cent saar was not audited by the IVW .

The design of the paper was developed by founding editor Peter Stefan Herbst and newspaper designer Mario Garcia . In addition to a brief overview of important news from the region, Germany and the world, the product was mainly characterized by young content such as a daily singles exchange, music and lifestyle pages.

After the paper was published for the first time in the Lusatian region of Lusatia in spring 2004, there was increased competition on the regional newspaper market. In Saarland, Axel Springer Verlag tried to counter this with a Saar edition of Bild and Welt Kompakt , but gave up the Welt Kompakt editorial team in Saarbrücken at the end of September 2006. Image Saarland continues to appear.

Since "20cent" could not reach the profit zone, both editions were discontinued on February 28, 2009 - according to owner Holtzbrinck, also in view of the advertising and media crisis since the end of 2008.
