occupation

2:37 is an Australian feature film by director Murali K. Thalluri from the year 2006 , the six students of a high school - all potential suicide candidates - acting.

action

At 2:37 p.m., a locked toilet door at an Australian school was forcibly opened after an angry teacher and a nervous student suspected something unusual. Together with the caretaker, who is specially summoned, they discover the blood-covered corpse of a person who has obviously committed suicide.

The film starts with a flashback to the beginning of the day and introduces six possible suicide candidates in sequence. In addition to two homosexuals - one outed and mocked and the other caught in the role of the maiden-macho, a bulimic , a victim of incest and her brother, who is at the same time her tormentor and ultimately an incontinent outsider who, to top it off, also limps the documentary-style film about the six young people and their problems. Nevertheless, the suicide does not turn out to be one of the six people described in the film, but appears as Kelly every now and then and the first impression suggests that her suicide occurred without a motive, but on closer inspection it becomes clear that it was simply invisible to most and this is probably the most obvious reason.

Reviews

“Thalluri's work is quite exciting over a certain distance due to its technical skills, but it achieves this at the expense of its characters. On the one hand, it would like to take their side, but on the other hand it exploits their personal dramas in order to maintain interest [sic] or to achieve effects. "

- Birte Lüdeking : Film review on critic.de from July 6, 2007

“What Thalluri shows us with 2:37, he knows only too well from his own experience. After a failed suicide attempt, he started writing the script. Everything that bothered him for months was written from his soul: his friend's suicide, kidney problems, depression, the end of his relationship. In a statement, the autodidact says that the film saved his life. Occupied with unknown but very talented actors, 2:37 is a startling, deadly mix of pent-up feelings, fear and despair. "

- Katrin Knauth : Film review on kino-zeit.de

"Intense, strongly staged and played youth drama, which does not deal with its clichéd characters too politely, but does not miss an effect due to uncompromising psychological hardship."
