The 3rd Panzer Division ( Japanese 戦 車 第 3 師 団 , Sensha Dai-san Shidan ) was a tank division of the Imperial Japanese Army , which was established in 1942 and dissolved in 1945. Your Tsūshōgō code (military code name) was Taki ( Japanese 滝 , "waterfall").
General data
The 3rd Panzer Division was, along with the 1st , 2nd and 4th , one of the Panzer divisions that were set up between 1942 and 1944. The headquarters of the Panzer Division was in Mengjiang , Manchuria .
History of unity
The Panzer Division was set up in June 1942 under the command of Lieutenant General Nishihara Isaku and initially consisted of the 5th Panzer Brigade (8th and 12th Panzer Regiments) and the 6th Panzer Brigade (13th and 17th tanks -Regiment), as well as the 3rd Motorized Infantry Regiment, the 3rd Motorized Artillery Regiment and other smaller units. The division was subordinate to the China Expeditionary Army and was deployed in Manchuria in order to counter potential attacks by the Soviet Union .
The 8th Panzer Regiment was transferred to Rabaul in New Britain in September 1942 , where it remained until the end of the war.
The remaining tank regiments remained in Manchuria and withdrew towards Korea towards the end of the war .
In September 1945 the 3rd Panzer Division was disbanded.
