The 28th Division ( Japanese 第 28 師 団 , Dai-nijūhachi Shidan ) was a division of the Imperial Japanese Army , which was established in 1940 and disbanded in 1945. Your Tsūshōgō code (military code name) was Wealth Division ( 豊 兵 団 , Toyo-heidan ).
History of unity
The 28th Division was under the command of the August 1, 1940 Lieutenant General Ishiguro Teizo as Type A "reinforced" Division as Triangular Division set up and consisted of the 28th Infantry - Brigade (3rd, 30th and 36th Regiment) and the 28 cavalry - regiment , 28th division artillery group and 28 pioneer - and transport regiment. The headquarters of the approximately 25,000 strong division was in Shinkyō , Manchukuo and was under the Kwantung Army .
In July 1944, the battleship Nagato transported the 36th regiment to Saipan , which was destroyed during the Battle of Saipan . On January 12, 1945, Lieutenant General Naumi Toshiro took command of the division. Shortly afterwards, the division was transferred to Okinawa , where it was destroyed like the other Japanese units on the island during the Battle of Okinawa .
