3001 - The Time of the Apes is a science fiction film that was first released on video in German-speaking countries on August 8, 1997. It is a US compilation of the Japanese 26-part television series Saru no Gundan ( 猿 の 軍 団 ).

action

When an earthquake hits Japan, Kazuko Izumi and two children who were visiting an uncle's laboratory doing research on cryonics are accidentally frozen . When they wake up again, they are on an earth where the monkeys have taken over. People only serve them as slaves. Hence the three humans are hunted by hordes of primates. You meet the only other human being, the rebel Godo. He helps them further; Finally, they learn that the monkeys are also controlled: dominated by a UECOM supercomputer that humans once built. This sends the three back into the past after having overcome several dangers.

criticism

The lexicon of the international film became clear: “Cheap science fiction adventure based on common models, sloppily assembled and with an illogic that can hardly be beaten.” Hahn / Jansen write: “This sloppily filmed and stolen story of monkeys whose lips barely move when they speak it looks * familiar * to us! Not to mention the logic errors that take your shoes off. "

Remarks

The very volatile plot, like the three successive, differing endings, is explained by the making of the film, whereby some episodes of a television series from 1974 were used as the starting material and a feature film was composed from them. The US producer Sandy Frank initiated this in 1987.
