Politics and world events

  • A few weeks after Xerxes II came to power in the Persian Empire , his half-brother Sogdianos revolted against him and had him murdered. Soon afterwards, however, another half-brother named Ochos rises up against Sogdianos. Sogdianos is overthrown and murdered, Ochos ascends the throne of the Achaemenid Empire as Dareios II .
  • Shortly after Darius II came to power, another brother, Arsites , revolted against him together with the noble Artyphios , son of Megabyzo . They win twice over the royal general Artasyras , who ultimately can bribe their Greek mercenaries to change sides. Artyphios and Arsites are sentenced to death.

Culture

  • The comedy The Clouds by Aristophanes premieres in Athens. The play, which contains some allegations against Socrates , only takes third place in the Dionysia . The winner is the self- deprecating comedy The Bottle ( Pytine ) by Kratinos .
