6zylinder , formerly six-cylinder or 6-cylinder , is a German a cappella group from Münster .

Band history

The music group was founded in 1983 and consisted of six singers of different voices. Four of the six singers came from the chamber choir of the Münster University of Music under the direction of Hermann Kreutz . After the first successes as a street musician and an appearance at a university party under the name Tilo-Singers, the first major engagements followed under the name six-cylinder four-stroke. After the four-stroke was not mentioned in the first press release, it stayed with the name 6-cylinder. Since 1984 they have been on stage in Germany as an a cappella group - from cabaret theaters to large halls. They also made concert tours through Switzerland and Austria, Italy, France, Israel and Australia, among others.

The group reached the media in early 1985 via the “springboard”, the WDR's newcomer stage , together with Helge Schneider , Erwin Grosche , Hella von Sinnen and Ingolf Lück . The children's musical Der Schweinachtsmann , sung by the 6 cylinders , was awarded the Leopold - Good Music for Children in 2001, a prize sponsored by the Association of German Music Schools (VdM) and awarded by the Federal Minister for Family Affairs at the time, Dr. Christine Bergmann and the WDR in Cologne. In 2002, the group initiated the a cappella festival EuropaVokal ( Open Air ) in Münster , at which two other renowned European a cappella groups perform annually in addition to the 6-cylinder. The first joint project of a cappella music and ballet was realized in 2002 in Perth, Australia, under the title Music to Watch . The program was developed in collaboration with the Link Dance Company under the direction of Chrissie Parrott.

In September 2008, the founding members Nicolas Leibel and Tilo Beckmann left the ensemble to pursue new professional paths. In June of the same year, the youngest member Marco A. Billep left the group to return to the musical. Gerritschen, Leidreiter and Michaelis continued with five of them together with Winne Voget, who rejoined the group after a two-year break, and Matthias Ortmann, who was newly cast. In September 2013 Matthias Ortmann also left the group and tenor Roland Busch joined the group.
