Music genre

As with previous releases, the album is characterized by almost consistently fast-played skapunk . Only the ballad Africa Agónica is reminiscent of Roots Reggae . Simon Langemann from Laut.de even compares the brutality of the band with System of a Down . He alludes less to the style of music than to the frequent changes in tempo, breaks and breaks in style within a song. The texts are all written in Spanish .

reception

In the laut.de review, Simon Langemann judges that 99% meet the fans' expectations of a Ska-P record without entering into experiments. As usual, the album features "precise guitar offbeats, irresistibly tight brass sections, sufficient punk power, Spanish sing-along choruses - and last but not least, a lot of positive energy against fascism". The almost consistently high tempo of the songs, however, "is quite annoying here and there", as does some chorus melodies.

Critic Mark Read from Plattentests.de also describes 99% as an album that relies above all on the tried and tested: “Loose-fuzzy offbeat” meets “hard punk guitars and hymn-like melodies”. It is similar to Ska-P's fourth studio album Planeta Eskoria (2000), where "the winds [..] fire from all pipes" and the "background choirs hoot and whistle". In terms of content, the album also takes up 99% of the well-known socially critical issues. However, it is never boring and contains small doses of experimental elements, such as the instrumental opener Full Gas with a “jazzed end” or the reggae by Africa agónica . The hymn Se acabó praises Read as possibly the best song by Ska-P so far.
