Aïssata Lam

Aïssata Lam (* 1986 or 1987 ) is a Mauritanian women's rights activist and microfinance expert.

Life

Lam is a graduate of the École des hautes études commerciales (also: HEC Montréal ) in Montreal (Canada) and Harvard University in Cambridge (United States). She focused her studies on microfinance and rural finance.

She is co-founder and president of the Mauritanian Youth Chamber of Commerce of Mauritania, YCCM, founded in 2013. The foundation was made to support young women entrepreneurs who have difficulties in obtaining funding for their start-ups .

She is committed to women's rights and uses her platform to honor exceptional Mauritanian women. She was appointed to the G7 Council for Gender Equality by French President Emmanuel Macron . She currently runs the iLab start-up center. Lam has spoken out against child marriage .

Awards and honors

She was selected for a portrait in the BBC 100 Women series in 2019 .
