100 Women is a global multi-format series founded by the BBC in 2013, which includes 100 women per year who the BBC noticed in an outstanding way, but who have never been on the BBC's 100 women list before.

The series examines the role of women in the 21st century. After the annual publication of the list, the three-week so-called BBC women's series begins with broadcasts, online contributions, debates and journalistic articles on the topic of women. Women from around the world are encouraged to participate via Twitter and comment on the list, give interviews, and participate in the debates that follow the list's publication. The discussion on Twitter takes place under the hashtag # 100Women.

history

After the gang rape in Delhi in 2012, BBC editor Fiona Crack and other journalists like Liliane Landor came up with the idea of ​​creating a series that would focus on the problems and successes of women in today's society. Crack felt that many of the problems women face today are not getting enough media coverage. In March 2013 the BBC received a “flood of feedback from female listeners” with the tenor that the BBC should offer more “content by and for women”.

The BBC started the series in 2013 with the aim of counteracting the under-representation of women in the media. The women who participated in the first program were selected through a survey in 26 different language services. The broadcasts ran for over a month and ended with a conference on October 25, 2013. There 100 women from all over the world discussed common problems. To examine cultural and social challenges women face in everyday life, the range of topics ranged from job search challenges, feminism, motherhood to religion.

The series has covered many topics since then, including education, health care, equal pay , genital mutilation , domestic violence, and sexual abuse . She tries to give women a platform on which they can discuss how the world can be improved and sexism eliminated. The women on the 100 Women List come from all over the world and are involved in various fields. Women already include famous people as well as less well-known people.
