Alice Powell
Alice Powell (born January 26, 1993 in Oxford , England ) is a British racing driver . In 2012 and 2013 Powell started in the GP3 series .
Powell is the first woman to win a Formula Renault championship.
Career
Powell began her motorsport career in 2001 at the age of eight in karting , where she was active until 2008. In 2007 she also made her debut in GT racing. She finished 17th in the Ginetta GT Junior Championship . In 2008 she stayed in that series and finished four races on the podium. In the overall standings, she achieved ninth place. 2009 Powell joined the Formula racing and started for Manor Competition in the British Formula Renault . With two tenth places as the best results, she finished 18th overall at the end of the season. Powell also took part in a Formula Palmer Audi race weekend and finished 25th in the overall standings.
In 2010 the racing driver competed for Hillspeed in the BARC Formula Renault . With a win at Silverstone , she became the first woman to win a Formula Renault race. With another victory she secured the BARC Formula Renault championship title. Powell is the first female racing driver to win a Formula Renault championship. She also competed in some races in the British Ginetta G50 Cup and took part in the British Formula Renault winter series. In 2011 Powell returned to Manor Competition in the British Formula Renault. With a fourth place as the best result, she ended the season in ninth place overall. Her two teammates Josh Hill and Jordan King took two places in front of her. In addition, she took part in a number of touring car races, in the Northern European Formula Renault and in the InterSteps Championship and competed in individual events. At the MRF Formula 1600 Delhi Championship , she achieved two podiums in two races.
In 2012 Powell received a cockpit in the GP3 series at Status Grand Prix . Together with Carmen Jordá and Vicky Piria , she became the first woman to compete in this racing series. Powell became the first woman to score a point in the GP3 series. At the end of the season she was in 19th place overall, losing to her teammates Marlon Stöckinger and Lewis Williamson , who both had GP3 experience before the season. In 2013 Powell initially found no cockpit. She eventually took part in the MSV F3 Cup , a British amateur racing series with Formula 3 vehicles. There she won five races and finished second overall. In addition, she made guest starts in the national class of the British Formula 3 Championship . In November she returned to professional motorsport and took part in the final race weekend of the GP3 series for Bamboo Engineering .
In November 2014 Powell negotiated with the bankrupt racing team Caterham about a use in Friday practice at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix . A family member offered the team, which was trying to raise the funds needed to participate in the season finale through so-called fundraising , an amount of 44,500 euros for a Powell assignment. The project was finally abandoned due to Powell's lack of a super license.
Powell returned to Formula Renault and drove for FRD Motorsport in the International Class of the Asian Formula Renault Series 2014. During the 11 racing season, Powell took five class wins, four of which were also race wins, and won the championship in the international class.
In October 2015 Powell took part in four races of the Indian MRF Challenge in Abu Dhabi. Her best result here was eighth place.
In December 2018 she started as a guest starter at the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy 2018/19 in Diriyya, where she finished 5th in the race.
In 2019 she competed in the W Series . While she did not finish in two races, in the remaining four races she took a third place, a second place twice and a race win. She was able to finish the championship in third place behind Jamie Chadwick and Beitske Visser .
Powell is a fixed starter in the Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy for the 2019/2020 season . After three races, she was on the podium twice.
