Jamie Laura Chadwick (born May 20, 1998 in Bath ) is a British racing driver who currently competes in the F3 Asian Series and the W Series .

Life

childhood

Chadwick grew up on the Isle of Man . Her father Michael is a building contractor, her Indian mother is a businesswoman. Jamie Chadwick attended Cheltenham College and currently lives in London. Chadwick started kart racing at the age of 11 after her brother Oliver went kart racing. In 2013 she turned down an offer for England's under-18 hockey team to compete for a Ginetta Junior Scholarship. With this scholarship, she was able to compete in the Ginetta Junior Championship 2013 at the side of her brother for the JHR Developments Team, where she finished the championship in tenth place. In 2014, she achieved five podium finishes in the same series, finishing eighth overall.

British GT and Formula 3 championship

In 2015 and 2016, Chadwick competed in the GT4 class of the British GT Championship . With her co-driver Ross Gunn, she achieved two race wins and five podium finishes in an Aston Martin Vantage in 2015 . The victories also included the Silverstone 24-hour race . As a result, they won the GT4 classification of the British GT Championship, with Chadwick as the first female and youngest champion of all time. In 2016 she changed team and class during the season, eventually finishing in 15th place. In 2016, she took part in the 9th race of the VLN Endurance Championship Nürburgring and finished third in the SP8 class.

In 2017 Chadwick switched to the monocockpit and took part in the British Formula 3 championship . For the Double R Racing team she reached a podium in the season with 3rd place in Rockingham and finally finished it in ninth place. In 2018 she drove in the same series for Douglas Motorsport and became the first woman to win a British Formula 3 race. Even with the race win at Brands Hatch, however, she was only able to end the season in 8th place.

Further visits in 2018–2019

Also in 2018 she took part in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring , where she drove an Aston Martin Vantage V8 GT4 together with Jonny Adam , Alex Lynn and Pete Cate. The team finished fifth in their class and finished 63rd overall.

Between November 2018 and February 2019 she drove in the Indian MRF Challenge Formula 2000. With six race wins and 40 points behind the runner-up in the championship, she won the title - again as the first woman in this series.

She competed in the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring with Alex Brundle and Peter Cate in an Aston Martin Vantage AMR GT4. The team won in the SP8 class and finished twenty-seventh overall.

Chadwick also drove two days of testing for the Formula E team NIO in Riyadh and Marakesch. She drove a free practice session in Double R Racing's Euroformula Open car at Silverstone, with the option of competing in the series in the future being discussed.

W Series and F3 Asian Championship

In March 2019, Chadwick's participation in the first season of the W Series was confirmed. In the first race she led both practice sessions, took pole position and won the race. At the second race in Zolder she qualified again for pole position, but lost the lead to Beitske Visser and had to defend herself against Alice Powell after she braked. Eventually she finished the race in second place. In Misano she qualified for second place, overtook Fabienne Wohlwend at the start and achieved her second race win in the series. She took third place each at the Norisring and in Assen. Before the final race at Brands Hatch, she was 13 points ahead of Visser and started again from pole position. After losing positions to Powell, Emma Kimiläinen and Visser, fourth place was enough for her to win the championship.

Jamie Chadwick at the 2019 W Series Race at Brands Hatch

Chadwick was signed to Aston Martin Racing as a junior , an unofficial partnership that had existed since 2014. In May 2019 she became part of the Williams Driver Academy and development driver for the Formula 1 team.

After taking part in three races of the F3 Asian Championship in 2019, she completed all the races of the new season from December 2019 to February 2020. For the Absolute Racing team, she took four podium positions and finished the championship in fourth place. As a result, she received 10 super license points.

Between July and December 2020, Chadwick is scheduled to compete for the Prema Powerteam in the Formula Regional European Championship 2020 .

Chadwick has been announced as the rider for Extreme E's first season in 2021.
