The Silverstone 24-hour race , also known as Britcar 24hr , has been held annually since 2005 as part of the British Britcar endurance racing series for sports cars. It is also seen as the successor to the Willhire 24h as there has not been a 24 hour race in Great Britain since it was last held in 1994.
The length of a lap was 5.141 km (3.195 miles) from 2005 to 2009. Since the renovation in 2010, the length of one lap is 5.890 km (3.660 miles) or 5.901 km (3.667 miles).
Qualifying for the race takes place on Fridays and consists of a day and a night session. The day session starts at noon, the night session towards evening. Before the race there is a warm-up in the morning before the race starts in the afternoon.
Classification
The vehicle field is divided into four classes, the classification is either according to FIA homologation or the power to weight ratio :
- Class 1: vehicles according to FIA GT3 regulations or with a maximum of 2.6 kg / hp. Vehicles that are not based on any road car are classified as LMPX and are allowed to have up to 3.0 kg / ps.
- Class 2: vehicles according to the regulations of the Porsche 997 Cup / Ferrari 430 Challenge / Ginetta Supercup or with a maximum of 3.4 kg / hp.
- Class 3: vehicles according to the regulations of FIA GT4 / Porsche 996 Cup / Seat SuperCopa or with a maximum of 3.7 kg / hp.
- Class 4: Vehicles according to the regulations of Clio Cup / Ginetta G40 / Seat Cupra (Mk1) / Mini JCW or with a maximum of 5.2 kg / hp.
Diesel-powered vehicles are classified according to their power-to-weight ratio . You may carry a maximum of 75 liters of fuel, petrol vehicles 120 liters. You can fill up with 75 liters per pit stop.

The race started at 4.30 p.m. with a cloudy sky and a dry track. In the morning the fog became too thick and the race had to be interrupted. The restart took place at 7:15 a.m.
Top gear
A team from the British car show Top Gear was among the participants . You took part with a BMW e46 330d . In both qualifying sessions, with the help of their driver Stig , they were better than expected until the car ran out of propulsion. The repair work lasted until the field's warm-up lap and they could just start. With the exception of a few small problems, everything went well in the race until Richard Hammond had an accident with a Mosler at around 11 p.m. and the car had to take a three-hour break for repairs. They crossed the finish line and finished the race 39th out of 46.
James May did not participate in 2011 and 2012, it was a different James May.

The race was shortened from 24 hours to 500 miles (805 km).
2010 - 2/3 October
The race started at 4.30 p.m. The weather conditions were good at the beginning of the race, but after a few hours it started to rain. At the beginning of the night the track was wet and didn't dry off. On Sunday the fog got too thick and the field had to drive behind the safety car for hours.

2012 - 22/23 September
The pole position time of 2: 02.420 min was driven by Team LNT on a Ginetta G55 GT3. The race started at 3:30 p.m. The overall winner was Richard Abra's team in a BMW M3 E46 GTR with 564 laps. The fastest race lap with a time of 2: 05.297 min was driven by Neil Garner Motorsport on a Mosler MT900 R. Of the 33 vehicles that started, 26 made it into the ranking.
