Dame Uta Frith , DBE (* May 25, 1941 in Rockenhausen as Uta Aurnhammer ) is a German developmental psychologist , neuroscientist and autism researcher who works at the Institute of Cognitive Neuroscience at University College London . Her main research interests are autism and dyslexia .

Life

Uta Frith studied art history for a few semesters in Saarbrücken , then switched to psychology and received her intermediate diploma in 1964. Two years later she received her Diploma in Abnormal Psychology from the Department of Psychiatry at the University of London . In 1968 she received her PhD on autism from King's College London . From 1968 to 2006 she worked as an MRC scientist. After her habilitation in 1996, she took up a professorship for cognitive development at University College London , which she has held as an emeritus professorship since 2006 . In 2007 she took on an endowed research professorship at Aarhus University , where she is involved in the “Interacting Minds” project.

Services

Frith developed a graduation of the written language acquisition : 1st level: logographic, 2nd level: alphabetical and 3rd level: orthographic.

She influenced the work of Simon Baron-Cohen and Tony Attwood .

She translated a work by Hans Asperger from 1944 on the Asperger syndrome, which was later named after him, into English in 1991.

Her husband Chris Frith is also a neuroscientist.
