Erika Lust (* 1977 in Stockholm as Erika Hallqvist ) is a Swedish screenwriter , director , film producer and author . She is one of the pioneers of feminist pornography . She lives and works in Barcelona .

Life

Lust studied political science at Lund University with a focus on human rights . After graduating, she moved to Barcelona in 2000. After working at the theater in 2004, she founded the production company Lust Films , with which she specialized in the genre of feminist erotic films. She acts as a screenwriter, director and producer. She is now also active as an author.

Lust is married and has two children with her husband.

According to Erika Lust, her productions have around 40 percent female and 60 percent male viewers. She prefers to call her work “ethical porn” than “feminist porn”. Her work differs from conventional porn, as 15 women work in her company, from make-up to the camerawoman to the sound engineer. In classic porn shoots, the crew is almost exclusively male.

Unlike in classic porn, Erika Lust does not want to focus on the man and make the woman the object of his pleasure and satisfaction, that is sexist. On the other hand, she would like to “simply show couples having sex. Sometimes it can be funny, sometimes tough, sometimes romantic, sometimes playful. And I want to watch with my camera how everyone involved feels pleasure together - in giving and taking. It's about people, not about penetrating tools. "

Her first work, the short film The Good Girl , for which she is responsible for the script and direction, was made in 2004 shortly after founding her own production company, Lust Films . In 2007 this short film was incorporated into the feature film Five Hot Stories for Her , an anthology of five erotic short stories, which was awarded several international prizes, including the 2007 Eroticline award for “Best Screenplay” at the Barcelona International Erotic Film Festival ( FICEB Award ) -Award at the Venus Awards 2007 in Berlin and for the “Best Film of the Year” at the Feminist Porn Awards in Toronto (2008). At the CineKink Festival in New York (2008) the flick was mentioned in praise. In 2008 she made the experimental film Barcelona Sex Project , which received an award at the Venus Festival Berlin (2008) and screened at CineKink in New York (2009) and X-RATED in Amsterdam (2009). In 2010 her film Life Love Lust was released. She also made two other short films with Handcuffs (2009), which has received multiple awards, and Love me like you hate me (2010), both of which deal with the topics of fetish and BDSM .

She has been working on her short film project XConfessions since 2013 .

Her book Good Porn was published in 2009 under the title X - Porn for Women in Heyne Verlag in German.

In her speech at the TEDxVienna event, Erika takes a stance on her work in relation to conventional pornographic films.

Since 2013: XConfessions

Lust's short film series XConfessions is based on crowdsourcing . The users can anonymously write erotic confessions on the project website. Erika Lust selects two of these confessions every month and films them. Six anthologies have been published so far. XConfessions was presented in 2014 as part of the Berlin Porn Film Festival . Further screenings took place in 2015 at the Raindance Film Festival in London and at the Chicago International Film Festival. Two sold out excerpts from the XConfession series were shown in the Babylon cinema in 2016 .
