Fatma Samba Diouf Samoura (* 1962 in Senegal ) is a Senegalese sports official and former diplomat at the United Nations . Since June 2016 she has been Secretary General of the world football association FIFA .

Career

Fatma Samoura studied at the University of Lyon , where she obtained a master's degree in English and Hispanic studies and a post-master's degree in international relations and trade from the Strasbourg Institut d'Etudes Supérieures Spécialisées . She worked for eight years in the fertilizer trade for Senchim , a subsidiary of Industries Chimiques du Senegal , and was responsible for export and import programs, tenders and the establishment of a national distribution network.

Samoura has served in various functions for the United Nations since 1995 . She worked for the World Food Program in Guinea , Cameroon and Djibouti . In emergency aid she was active for the UN in Kosovo , Afghanistan and Sierra Leone, among others . In addition, she was Deputy UN Coordinator of the Office for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Chad since 2007 and subsequently in Nigeria . Later, Fatma Samoura was the resident UN coordinator in Nigeria until 2016 and thus, as the representative of the UN Secretary General, the country's highest UN representative with the rank of ambassador. She was also the UN coordinator for humanitarian affairs and resident representative of the United Nations Development Program in Nigeria.

On May 13, 2016, FIFA President Gianni Infantino Samoura proposed to the FIFA Congress in Mexico City as Secretary General of the World Football Association, which the Council confirmed on the same day. She is the first female and non-European Secretary General. In February 2016, following the resignation of FIFA President Sepp Blatter, who was banned as a result of an investigation , the presidential management powers were transferred to the Secretary General. In the redesigned position, Samoura leads the operative business of the world association, monitors the revenues and makes all strategic decisions. Infantino commented on her role as the first general secretary to come from outside: “She is someone from without, not from within. It doesn't come from the past, it's someone new. She will help us do the right thing. ”Her predecessor, Jérôme Valcke, was dismissed earlier this year on charges of corruption . On June 20, 2016, she took office as Secretary General and gave up her UN offices.

In May 2017, it became known that the cleaning of Samoura's private apartment from mid-August to the end of 2016 was charged by FIFA 28,183 francs more than the agreed approx. 5,000 francs. According to the auditors, Samoura paid the money back.
