A * S * Y * S

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A * S * Y * S (abbreviation for Acid Save Your Soul ) (born January 19, 1967 in Marburg ) is the name of a music project by the DJ and producer Frank Ellrich and is also his artist name. The project was founded in 1995 together with Kai Tracid , who left in December 2006. The music of A * S * Y * S moves between acid , hard trance and techno and is strongly influenced by the sound of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer . Since A * S * Y * S has only referred to Frank Ellrich's work since 2006, Ellrich also uses the name A * S * Y * S synonymously for his person. He has officially been DJing under this name since 1999.

Life

Frank Ellrich came into contact with techno at the Omen and Dorian Gray clubs in the early 1990s , which inspired his musical work. He worked for several advertising agencies in Frankfurt for six years before he decided to become a musician. He began his career in 1994 with an Atari computer and a keyboard . A little later he met Kai Tracid while working in the recording studio and founded the A * S * Y * S project with him.

Development of the project

In 1995 the first single Acid Train appeared on the Acid Test label . In the following year the follow-up single Acid Squid was released on the Frankfurt label Cybertronic Records before the project was suspended. Ellrich initially devoted himself to other projects, while Kai Tracid began a solo career. In 1999 the single Acid Save Your Soul was released on Tracid's label Tracid Traxxx , which was followed by six more singles and an album . At the end of 2006, Tracid announced a musical realignment of Tracid Traxxx and at the same time got out of the A * S * Y * S project. The single Cheers was the last single on the old Tracid Traxxx label and the first to be produced by Ellrich alone. The follow-up single LOST In Acid was released in 2007 on Ellrich's newly founded label Fe Records .

Trivia

According to Ellrich, the project name does not allude to the psychedelic acid , but to the musical style of the same name.
