The A. Murray MacKay Bridge is one of two toll suspension bridges that connect the provincial capital of Nova Scotia Halifax with Dartmouth . It is named after Alexander Murray MacKay, who was chairman of the Halifax-Dartmouth Bridge Commission from 1951 to 1971 . The commission was responsible for the construction and is still responsible for the maintenance of this and the southern Angus L. Macdonald Bridge . The four-lane bridge is part of Highway 111 , the corresponding section of the route is toll.
