Janusz Władysław Zemke (born February 24, 1949 in Kowalewo Pomorskie ) is a Polish politician , since 1989 a member of the Sejm in the 10th electoral term ( PRL ), as well as the I., II., III., IV., V. and VI . Electoral term ( Third Republic ), former State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense, Member of the European Parliament since 2009 .

He is a graduate of the IV General Education Lyceum in Bydgoszcz . He graduated from the Faculty of Law and Administrative Sciences at the Mikołaj Kopernik University in Torun , and then obtained his doctorate in Political Science from the University of Social Sciences at the Central Committee of Polska Zjednoczona Partia Robotnicza (Polish United Workers' Party - PZPR) in Warsaw in 1977 . He is first lieutenant in the reserve.

He was a member of the PZPR from 1969 until its self-dissolution in 1990, and was among other things first secretary of the voivodship committee in Bydgoszcz. In 1990 he joined the Socjaldemokracja Rzeczypospolitej Polskiej (Social Democracy of the Republic of Poland - SdRP) and in 1999 the Sojusz Lewicy Demokratycznej (Federation of the Democratic Left - SLD). He sat on the state board of the SdRP.

Since 1989 he has been a member of the Sejm without interruption. In 1989 he was elected for the PZPR, in 1991, 1993, 1997, 2001 and 2005 he won the mandate for the SLD. From 2001 to 2005 he was State Secretary in the Ministry of Defense.

In the parliamentary elections in 2007 he was elected for the seventh time with 42,347 votes, this time from the list of Lewica i Demokraci (Left and Democrats - LiD) and for the constituency of Bydgoszcz. He was chairman of the defense commission and sits on the intelligence commission.

On April 22, 2008 he became a member of the newly founded Lewica parliamentary group .

In the European elections in 2009 , he was the European Parliament voted. This ended his membership in the Sejm on June 10, 2009.
