The A861 road is an A-road in the Scottish Council Area Highland . It runs through the western part of the Highlands and branches off the A830 at Kinlocheil , which it meets again just 23 kilometers further west at Lochailort. In some cases the roadway consists of only one lane ( single track road ). It connects the Ardnamurchan peninsula to the trunk road network.

course

The A861 branches off from the A830 , the Road to the Isles , after Kinlocheil . The route initially leads along Loch Eil via Garvan , Duisky and Blaich to Camusnagaul . There is a ferry dock for the passenger ferry to Fort William . The route then leads along Loch Linnhe to Ardgour . From there there is a car ferry connection with the Corran Ferry via the Corran Narrows , a bottleneck from Loch Linnhe, to Nether Lochaber on the A82 . From Ardgour, the route continues along Loch Linnhe to Inversanda . The B8043 branches off behind Inversanda and leads to Loch Sunart . Shortly before Strontian , the A884 branches off , via which Lochaline , the starting point for the car ferry to Fishnish on the Isle of Mull , can be reached. From Strontian, the road to Acharacle on Loch Shiel continues to Glenuig Bay and on to Loch Ailort to the village of Lochailort , where it joins the A830 again.
