course

About one kilometer west of Finstown about at the height of the Loch of Wasdale , the A986 branches off in a northerly direction from the A965 ( Kirkwall - Stromness ). It runs for a total of 13.2 km in a north-westerly direction until it joins the A967 at Twatt , which in turn leads to Birsay in the north-west of Mainland. On its way it connects the villages of Bimbister , Harray and Dounby to the road network. The B9057 ( Aith - Evie ) crosses in Dounby . The Loch of Bosquoy , Loch of Harray , Loch of Sabiston and Loch of Banks lakes are also accessible off the A986 .
