AN / FPS-8

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The AN / FPS-8 is a medium-power D-band tactical air reconnaissance and early warning radar and has been used on civil airfields and military bases in both the United States and Europe. Manufacturer was Lockheed Martin Ocean Radar and Sensor Systems, Syracuse ( NY )

In most positions, the antenna was mounted unprotected on a medium-height tower. A protective radome could also be used for more difficult environmental conditions . In the years many modernizations were carried out on the radar device, which led to the equipment variant called AN / FPS-88 (V).

The AN / FPS-8 is currently still in operation in a wide variety of modernization variants in many countries around the world. Over 200 pieces have been produced in the past. Two mobile versions of the AN / FPS-8 were built, which were named AN / MPS-11 and AN / MPS-11A .
