ARIS MashZone is freeware for creating flexible and interactive management dashboards ( mashups ). The tool enables the import of data from internal data sources such as CRM systems, ERP reports or data warehouses, external data from web services and simple Excel tables. ARIS MashZone was developed by IDS Scheer / Software AG .
history
ARIS MashZone was first mentioned in February 2009 in a press release from IDS Scheer AG. The first release took place on September 22, 2009 in a public beta test in the ARIS community. People who had previously registered for the beta test were able to download and test this beta version. The official release was on January 18, 2010. The first service release followed on March 31, 2010. Innovations compared to the first version included dynamic data source parameters, real-time dashboards, crosstabs and dynamic URLs. In mid-June 2010, USU Software announced a cooperation with IDS Scheer, under which USU will act as a sales partner for ARIS MashZone.
Functionalities
Overview
ARIS MashZone is a client / server application. The application consists of the home screen, a virtual composer and a feed editor. The home screen provides an overview of the existing mashups. Mashups can be created and edited in the Visual Composer. The data sources for the mashups can be managed in the Feed Editor.

Components of ARIS MashZone
Home screen
The home screen gives the user the opportunity to browse, search and rate his mashups. Since MashZone is based on a client-server model, mashups from other users are also listed. With the tag cloud function, mashups can be sorted according to specific keywords.
Visual composer
The Visual Composer is a WYSIWYG editor for creating mashup dashboards based on data feeds. A large number of tables, diagrams and input fields for the visualization of data are offered as operators. Each individual component can be adjusted by the user in terms of appearance and behavior. In the data mapping view, the components can be connected to data feeds. These data feeds provide the values that are later to be visualized in the dashboard.
Feed editor
MashZone's graphical data feed editor enables the visual components to be linked to the corresponding data sources. In the editor, a hierarchy structure describes how the data is obtained from the various sources and how it is later converted. The data sources include data that is stored outside of MashZone. You can use operators to determine which data should be processed by MashZone in which way. Each data feed has a table structure as a result. In addition to the various data sources, the palette on the left offers various operators such as combine, link and calculate . In addition, various basic text and calculation functions are available to influence the results of the feed. The operators can be arranged and connected to one another in any direction using drag & drop.

ARIS MashZone is a client / server-based application. This consists of a Java- based web application and a Flash- based user interface - a Rich Internet Application . MashZone appeals to business users who are interested in self-operated business intelligence solutions. The structure of MashZone consists of two parts: a Java runtime environment and a web application . The setup procedure hides the technical details for setting up the web application, starting the services or selecting the ports. After the product has been installed, any Flash-capable browser can be used to start MashZone. Although the application can be purchased free of charge, a license key is required when the data feed editor or the visual composer is opened. You can obtain this key free of charge after registering in the ARIS Community.

There is a group in the ARIS Community especially for MashZone users. A Personas for Firefox is available for ARIS MashZone.
The website has a gallery that can be viewed without having to install the product.
