history

ASM Belfort

The ASMB was formed in 1971 from the merger of two local clubs, the traditional secular Union Sportive (USB) and the Catholic Association Sportive Patronale (ASPB) , with the latter becoming the more successful in football after the Second World War and in a group in the 1960s the third highest division competed. In return, the USB had a very good name in the 1920s and early 1930s, and in the Coupe de France (Cup) , the most important national competition before the introduction of professional football in France , it reached the national main round twelve times, in which it was between 1921 and 1921 In 1932 he even made it to the round of 16 four times. At that time, Étienne Mattler and André Maschinot, two young men from the Territoire de Belfort belonged to the squad of the club, who then became French internationals .

The merger in 1971 took place with the active participation of the city fathers of Belfort, who advocated a concentration of forces; therefore the resulting club also has the term “ Municipale ” in its name. In 2006 the footballers made themselves largely independent from the entire club, but retained the club name ASMB, to which only an FC (Football Club or Foot for short ) was attached. The club colors are blue and red. The league eleven play their home games at the Stade Roger-Serzian , which has a capacity of around 5,500 seats.

League affiliation and successes of the footballers

In 2003 the blue-reds rose from Division d'Honneur to the fifth division (CFA 2), which they - with the interruption of a season (2007/08), when Belfort was even represented in the fourth division (CFA) - up 2010 belonged. Then the ASMB belonged to the top amateur league for five years. In 2015, their first men's team qualified as champions of their CFA group for promotion to the third class national .

In the national cup competition, Belforts Ligaelf has not yet been able to build on the successes of its predecessor USB. She only reached the main round in 1980 and 2013 , in which she was eliminated after only one game. In 2020, however, the fourth-class ASMB even made it into the round of the top eight teams this season after they eliminated a second and a first division team with AS Nancy and HSC Montpellier ,
