A Band Apart is an American film production company operated by director Quentin Tarantino and film producer Lawrence Bender . Subsidiaries are the production company A Band Apart Commercials , founded in 1995, and the record label A Band Apart Records , founded in 1997 .

The name goes back to the film title Bande à part by the French director Jean-Luc Godard , which translated means something like the " gang of outsiders".

founding

The collaboration between the two filmmakers began in 1992 with the movie Reservoir Dogs . The company's logo, which depicts four gangsters on their way to a robbery, comes from a scene in this film. Tarantino chose the company name based on Jean-Luc Godard's film The Outsiders Gang ( French : Bande à part ).

In September 1995, Quentin Tarantino, Lawrence Bender and advertising producer Michael Bodnarchek founded A Band Apart Commercials. Bender compared the cooperation between the two parts of the company with that of the US film company United Artists : “A Band Apart Commercials and A Band Apart Films are housed under one roof so that the directors of both branches can exchange ideas with each other. We see it as a creative greenhouse, similar to the old United Artists, where directors supported each other and worked together. "

Movies

The company has produced the following films, directed by Tarantino:

In addition to the production of the Quentin Tarantino films, other cinema works were also created. Here the company operates as A Band Apart Productions . The best-known feature film not made by Tarantino is the horror road movie From Dusk Till Dawn . Other films produced by A Band Apart Productions include:

In addition, the company is intensively involved in the production of commercials ( A Band Apart Commercials ) and music videos ( A Band Apart Music Videos ) and in 1997 the record label A Band Apart Records was founded to evaluate the soundtracks of the films produced by A Band Apart .
