A Christmas Horror Story is an American episodes - horror film from the year 2015. Responsible recorded the three directors Grant Harvey , Steven Hoban and Brett Sullivan . The film, which was produced for the video market, contains four episodes, which were supplemented by a framework story with William Shatner .

action

The framework story shows a worn-out radio host named Dangerous Dan in the fictional small town of Bailey Downs (where the Ginger Snaps series is set, among other things ), who is hosting the Christmas program. During this broadcast four stories happen in the small town, which are told in parallel below:

1st episode

Dylan, Ben and Molly break into their old school to make a documentary about two murders that happened last Christmas. You penetrate deep into the school and find an old part of the building in the basement that used to belong to a monastery. You can also find the crime scene there. When they want to go home, they find the cellar door locked. Shortly thereafter, a ghost takes possession of Molly. It is the ghost of a pregnant nun who was forced to have an abortion. The ghost first tries to seduce Dylan, but when Dylan refuses, the ghost kills him. The ghost then seduces Ben. However, when he realizes what happened, he takes up a gun and is also killed. Then the ghost releases the now pregnant Molly.

2nd episode

Police officer Scott goes out with his wife Kim and son Will to get a Christmas tree. The three sneak into Big Earl's grounds and find a wonderful Christmas tree. On the way back, Will disappears and reappears in a tree hole. But he seems changed somehow. Besides, he doesn't say a word. At home he first attacks Scott. Big Earl answers shortly afterwards and explains that it is not Will, but a changeling . Kim doesn't believe him until the changeling finally kills Scott. She brings the changeling back to Big Earl, but when he refuses to release Will, she kills the man. The changeling is then free and finally frees Will as well.

3rd episode

Caprice and Duncan visit Aunt Etta's house with their parents for Christmas. There she tells about Krampus , the anti-Santa Claus who kills sinful children. Duncan destroys a figure of the mythical creature. The family is thrown out by Etta and her carer Gerhard. After a car accident, the family is confronted with Krampus, who kills one after the other. Only Caprice can save himself and kills Krampus, who turns into Gerhard. She returns to her aunt's estate and confronts her with it. Eventually Caprice turns into Krampus and kills her aunt.

4th episode

Santa Claus is preparing for a stressful Christmas in his workshop when one of his elves is gripped by a mysterious disease and dies despite his immortality. But that's just the beginning: he returns as a kind of zombie and attacks Santa Claus together with the other elves, who defends himself with his staff. When he has killed all the elves, he duels with Krampus. Shortly thereafter, the scene changes and it turns out that Santa Claus is actually the shop manager Mr. Taylor, who suffered from a psychotic episode. The zombies were the mall's customers. When the police arrive, Mr. Taylor takes them for Krampus and he is shot down.

background

A Christmas Horror Story was shot by a three-man directing team. In addition, five scriptwriters were involved in the film and interwoven the individual episodes. The background story about the radio presenter came later, when the producers made contact with William Shatner.

The film was released on October 2, 2015 as DVD and video on demand . It was first performed at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Canada. It was first released in Germany on November 27, 2015 as Blu-ray and DVD.

Reviews

Peter Sobczynski rated the film on Roger Ebert's side with 2.5 out of four stars. Compared to other Christmas horror films such as the unspeakable Silent Night - Horror Night or Black Christmas , the weak remake of Jessy - The Stairway to Death , A Christmas Horror Story moves roughly in the middle. He found the structure of the film not so suitable, because whenever things get exciting, the film changes to another episode. Still, the film has its good moments.

The reuzensent judged on Filmbessprechungen.de:

“In its entirety,“ A Christmas Horror Story ”is suitable as a mulled wine-free festive contrast program, despite all objections. The aforementioned minimum budget demanded the ingenuity of a five-man script team, while cameraman Gavin Smith was cleverly conjuring up various outdoor shots with light and shadow. At least visually, this film never looks poor, and in terms of content, you have also done more right than wrong. "
