A Crime to Remember is an American crime film - documentary series , which since 12 November 2013, the American broadcaster Discovery Investigation is broadcast.

The television show was renewed for a fifth season in March 2017, which aired from February 10 to April 7, 2018. A German-language first broadcast has not yet been broadcast.

A Crime to Remember won the News & Documentary Emmy Award in 2014 and 2015 .

concept

The television show reconstructs criminal cases, mostly from the 1950s and 1960s , which attracted media and public attention. These are re-enacted by actors.

Each episode includes interviews with surviving friends and relatives, as well as participating investigators and journalists who covered the cases. Crime experts and authors are also interviewed. These also act as narrators for the television show.

While the first two seasons only consisted of criminal cases from the 1950s and 1960s, criminal cases from the 1930s and 1970s have also been dealt with since the third season , and since the fourth season also criminal cases from the 1920s and 1940s .

Production and broadcast

A Crime to Remember has been produced for Investigation Discovery by XCON Productions at Lincoln Square Productions based on an idea by Christine Connor since 2013. Each episode is shot and edited like a short film. As a result, the TV show looks like a film accompanied by narrators and not like a classic crime documentary series.

The first six-part season aired from November 12 to December 17, 2013. In March 2014, the television show was extended by an eight-part additional season, which was shown on Investigation Discovery from November 11 to December 30, 2014. For the first time, during the broadcast of the third season from November 10 to December 29, 2015, viewers were able to use an omnidirectional camera on the ACrimeToRemember.com website to take pictures of the crime scene from all directions in a range of 360 degrees horizontally and vertically watch. In addition to the background information on the criminal cases of the season, there was also a look behind the scenes of the documentary series.

In March 2016, A Crime to Remember was renewed for a fourth season. The eight new episodes aired from December 6, 2016 to January 31, 2017.

Author and True Crime Diary blogger Michelle McNamara , Patton Oswalt's wife , made regular appearances in the documentary series until her death in April 2016 . She was replaced by Karen Kilgariff from the My Favorite Murder podcast from season four .

The producers honored McNamara at the beginning of the final episode of the fourth season with the words:

"This season of A Crime to Remember is dedicated to our friend Michelle McNamara."

"This season of A Crime to Remember is dedicated to our friend Michelle McNamara."

In March 2017, a fifth season with eight episodes was ordered, which was shown on Investigation Discovery from February 10 to April 7, 2018.

In addition, the first three seasons are currently available on Hulu and the fourth season on DirecTV . All five seasons are made available on Amazon Video and on the website of the broadcaster Investigation Discovery.
