A Very Brutal Christmas is an extended play of the Austrian Death Machine project by As-I-Lay-Dying singer Tim Lambesis . The EP was released on November 21, 2008 by Metal Blade Records .

History of origin

The debut album Total Brutal was released on July 22, 2008. A few months later, Lambesis decided to add an EP. As with the debut album, the cover was drawn by Ed Repka . It shows a drawing of Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Terminator outfit with a Christmas hat. In addition to the album track Get to the Choppa , the EP contains two cover versions , a version of the famous Christmas carol Jingle Bells and a cover of the Judas Priest classic Hell Bent for Leather , both of which in the typical style of Austrian Death Machine.

As on the album, Chad Ackerman (ex- Chapter 14 ) can be heard as a Schwarzenegger parody. Other guest musicians are:

  • Jason Suecof ( Capharnaum ) - guitar solo on Get to the Choppa
  • Dan Gregory - backing vocals for Hell Bent for Leather
  • Jeff Gretz (ex- From Autumn to Ashes ) - drums at Hell Bent for Leather
  • Mark MacDonald (Mercury Switch) - guitar solo for Hell Bent for Leather
  • James Gericke - bass
  • Mike Catalano ( As I Lay Dying ) - drums on Get to the Choppa

Track list

  1. Jingle Bells - 3:01
  2. Get to the Choppa - 2:47
  3. Hell Bent for Leather - 2:57

Music genre

As on the debut album, this release is also about modern Thrash / Death Metal, which uses a Schwarzenegger parody as a hook. Jingle Bells was supplemented by beatdowns and the crew vocals common in hardcore punk . Even Hell Bent for Leather was recorded in typical Austrian Death Machine style. The song contains a reference to the movie Terminator 2 and quotes the scene in which the "naked" Terminator gets clothes, boots and a motorcycle.
