A Weekend in the City is the second studio album by the band Bloc Party .

History of origin

According to the singer Kele Okereke, the band did not want a kind of “ Silent Alarm Pt. 2 ”, the sound is therefore much more electronic and experimental than the debut. The album is about a. violence, the terrorist attacks on July 7th 2005 in London , immigration and substance abuse . In interviews, Okereke admitted that he dared to approach political issues to a greater extent in his lyrics, especially some racist incidents in Great Britain were the trigger. The album cover is a photograph called A Modern Project by Rut Blees Luxembourg . At the same time, the single The Prayer ( B-side : We Were Lovers ) was released.

successes

It sold so often in the UK that it reached number 2 on the UK album charts in February 2007. The album was also successful in the USA; With 47,726 copies sold, the album climbed to number 12 on the Billboard charts.

The album appeared in different versions. A limited edition included a DVD with bonus material. Different bonus tracks have also been recorded for the various download portals such as iTunes and Napster . More bonus tracks can be found on the Japanese and Canadian versions of the album. In addition to the CD versions, a picture LP was also released without bonus material.
