Aage Haugland
Aage Haugland (born February 1, 1944 in Copenhagen , † December 23, 2000 in Lillerød ) was a Danish opera singer ( bass , also bass-baritone ) of Norwegian descent. In the 1980s in particular, he was in international demand as an accent-free interpreter of German ( Wagner , Strauss ) and Russian roles ( Mussorgsky , Shostakovich ), but also sang Italian roles ( Verdi ).
Life
Haugland studied in Copenhagen and made his debut in Oslo in 1968 . In addition to his more famous colleagues Martti Talvela and Matti Salminen , he was considered the most impressive and versatile Scandinavian bass of his generation due to his powerful and sensual voice as well as his large stage presence .
