Abbas al-Fassi

Abbas al-Fassi (born September 18, 1940 in Berkane ; Arabic عباس الفاسي, DMG ʿAbbās al-Fāssī , also Abbas El Fassi ) is a Moroccan politician and was Moroccan Prime Minister from September 19, 2007 to November 29, 2011 . Al-Fassi belongs to the Istiqlal (PI) party , which was headed by his father-in-law, Allal al-Fassi , in the 1940s and which he in turn led from 1998 to 2012.

Life

From 1977 to 1981, Al-Fassi was Minister for Construction. He then became Minister for Crafts and Social Affairs. In 1985 he became ambassador to Tunisia and represented Morocco to the Arab League . Between 1990 and 1994 he represented his country as ambassador to France . Between 2000 and 2002 he took over the Ministry of Education, Training, Social Development and Solidarity. He then took over the post of Foreign Minister in the government of the independent Prime Minister Driss Jettou , which he held until the 2007 parliamentary elections .

After the election victory of the Istiqlal (PI) on September 7th, King Mohammed VI appointed. El Fassi on September 19, 2007 as the successor to Driss Jettou as Prime Minister of Morocco. On September 23, 2012, Abdelhamid Chabat was elected as his successor as general secretary of Istiqlal at a party congress.
